Whether waiting for your turn for bathroom time or waiting for dinner to be ready, or even waiting for prayers to be answered. One of the hardest fruits of the spirit is patience. Our family has been spending a few moments after dinner discussing this very important Christ like quality. I feel like it is hard to find moments where a family can have bible study together but I know it is vital to prepare our children for this world. In the beginning it was very difficult to introduce bible time at dinner because everyone was so eager to leave the table and move on to the next activity. We stuck with it through trial and error. We tweaked the topics and tried to make it fun for all. I have been researched various resources, books, online articles, bible study material, and devotions. I now see it is paying off. On a recent busy night where all of us actually got to eat together as a family the children were quick to point out that we needed to do a lesson! That is amazing to say the least! They are asking rather than us trying to captivate them. I discovered a great resource (see footnote) on character qualities. I picked patience from the list and viola!... a lesson is born. The material is very simple and easy to share with the kids. First, we defined patience from their perspective. We followed it up by prompting them to give real world examples. From the material I printed, included questions such as, “A patient person looks for something useful to do while him/she waits their turn. True? False?” Tomorrow we will continue our lesson with the additional material. Our goal is to break it into bite size pieces so they can meditate and soak it in without becoming “distracted”. I would love to hear how you engage your family into bible time. Now I am off to gymnastics class!
